Attorney Profile
David Mengers specializes in Criminal Trial Law. He has over eighteen years of active experience. Mr. Mengers also practices in the areas of criminal appeals, domestic relations, and dependency. He has represented clients in Marion, Alachua, Citrus, Lake, Sumter, Volusia, Levy, Osceola, Hardee, and Pasco counties, as well as in Federal Court and the Fifth District Court of Appeal. Among the many cases he has tried to verdict are cases of DUI Manslaughter, Vehicular Homicide, Attempted Murder, Armed Robbery, Burglary, various Sex Offenses, Dealing in Stolen Property, Grand Theft, Racketeering, and Trafficking/Sale/Possession of Controlled Substances. He has tried cases ranging from misdemeanors to Habitual Offender and Prison Releasee Reoffender cases. Before graduating from college he spent several months in Mexico and Ecuador. He also visited Venezuela, Columbia, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, and Belice. He Speaks fluent Spanish. David Mengers graduated from Ohio University in 1981 with High Honors. At the University of Florida College of Law he made the Dean's List four times. He also earned two Book Awards, awarded to the outstanding student in particular classes. He graduated with Honors in December, 1985. Mr. Mengers completed the Criminal Trial Advocacy Institute seminar in 1988 and the Trial Practice Institute seminar, presented by the national Criminal Defense College in Macon, Georgia in 1993. Since 1997 Mr. Mengers has taught trial advocacy at the Defender College seminar in Crystal River, Florida. In recent years he has lectured on the law and practice of voir dire (jury selection).
