Florida man arrested after drinking, driving lawnmower

| May 7, 2019 | Dui |

Getting a DUI is not the way you want to end your vacation, but if you’ve traveled to Ocala and have had too much to drink, it could be how you end yours. Florida’s law enforcement is fairly strict on drinking and driving, particularly because of the high number of tourists. With so many people coming from out of the state, there’s no reason to add further risks by allowing drivers to drink, too.

Did you know that you can be charged for driving a lawnmower while you’re intoxicated? The same could be said of other motorized vehicles too, so it’s best to avoid doing so if you can.

Take, for example, a man in Florida who has been charged with a DUI for driving his mower into a law-enforcement officer’s vehicle. The officer was inside a local business when he heard a crash and found the man had collided with the vehicle.

The man did admit to hitting the vehicle, but when he was given a field sobriety test, he failed. The man allegedly claimed that the police had poisoned him and was taken to the hospital. There, it was found that he had a blood alcohol content registering at .241. He was also found to have cocaine in his blood, which he also alleged the police had planted.

Interestingly, the man’s license had been suspended since 1978, so his mower might have been his safest method of transportation. For now, the 68-year-old man faces DUI charges for his actions.

Stories like this might not be how you get caught for drinking and attempting to drive, but no matter how it happens, the results are the same. If you face DUI charges, don’t go without the help you need to defend yourself.
