Deputy dies in intersection crash resulting from alleged DUI

| Aug 18, 2019 | Dui |

When you’re driving while under the influence, you are putting yourself and others in danger. Sadly, many people find that their one-off bad decision does lead to serious consequences.

Take for example this case involving a South Florida crash that resulted in a deputy’s death. A 32-year-old man was driving when he ran a red light, hitting a deputy’s vehicle.

At the time of the fatal car crash, the deputy had been traveling to a call, so his lights and sirens were being used. Unfortunately, the 32-year-old driver did not see the patrol vehicle and hit the passenger side. The 30-year-old officer inside was killed due to the impact.

The news from Aug.15 reports that the 32-year-old man now faces over a dozen charges following the crash. One of those offenses includes DUI manslaughter. It is not clear why the authorities believe this was a DUI crash, and no blood test results were released.

This situation is just a single example of how a momentary lapse in judgment or a simple mistake can take a life. If you hurt or kill someone in a DUI crash, it’s important that you have someone on your side to help with your defense. Killing someone as a result of intoxication can lead to serious penalties including time in prison and harsh fines. Your attorney will work with you if you face a DUI charge or other indictments as a result of getting into a serious or fatal crash. That’s also the best way to make certain that you know what to expect in court and can respond to the allegations appropriately.
